um mercurey is the smalest in our galaxy, used to be some planet past pluto but where both dubed dwarf planets. if it gets to small they call it that. so are you looking for smallest planet or dwarf planet? if your looking for smalest thing then read my article about the strings of the univers in the one under beginners astronomy.

That depends on what you class as a "planet", which is a stupid argument so many scientists are paid a small fortune to discuss and debate forever and a day, ironically the money would probably be better spent on actual scientific study and more probes but such is life.

I can't fathom some idiot "scientists" logic which say if they say a planet is a certain thing it would incorporate moons!?

Confused

Maybe they should have their basic common sense evaluated, I mean the reason a moon is not a planet is because it orbits another celestial body not the damn sun.

At the end of the day, it's all just big marbles, smaller marbles and bits of sand but they will continue to bitch and argue about nomenclature, partly I suspect from jealousy about this person who has supposedly found "planet-x".

My definition of planets and moons would be quite simple.

PLANET: "A body large enough to be kept spheroid by its own gravity and in orbit around a sun"

MOON: "A body large enough to be kept spheroid by its own gravity and in orbit around a planet"

ASTEROID: "Irregular non-spheroidal objects orbitting planets or suns." these also include comets. You may more information on the following site, including the possibly new 10th planet.
