Purchasing a telescope

Hello there - I have a limited budget of $200-250 for a telescope. Wondering if someone is kind enough to recommend one for this price range that will give me the best view. Many thanks in advance and look forward to your response!

Idea there is a lot of info for telescopes at the following websites: www.my-spot.com , www.weatherman.com and especially at www.scopereviews.com. to name a few. it seems like the best bang for your buck based on the following info read would be the orion skyquest xt4.5 dobsonian for $199.00 at www.telescope.com. i have just ordered one with a 30 day any reason return policy from orion.

Hi, this not exactly an answer to your question, but I built a 4-1/2" dobsonian about a year ago and had alot of fun doing it.
For right around $100 (mirrors from Ebay) you can build your own and learn a little bit about optics at the same time.
My 15 year old son is in the process of building his now (great science project). It takes a little bit of mechanical ability, but not much.
I took a couple of good pics of the moon using my digital camera and that little scope. there are plenty of FREE plans on the internet and the feeling you get by looking though something you actually made yourself is indescribable.

Hello,
I'm 14 and I just wanted to tell about how I got my scope it is a amazing story.

I am member of SEQAS (south east Queensland astronomical society). I've been a member for about a year. I've alway been interested in space but never anything practical,............ till now. I am also interested in photography. I recently attended QLD astrofest I didn't have a telescope then but I hired one from the club. When I was up at duckadang, Peter Marples,(from SAS) saw me and got on to Ron&Claire of Sirius Optics, Underwood to see about getting me a telescope (I had no idea) and they, DONATED a Southern Cross Eight Inch Dobsonian with Two Eye Pieces and, Star Charts(from Colin) , I still am still so shocked and surprised by their generosity. And on that Tuesday Colin came over and showed me tortartas (that asteroid), I was so surprised it was moving so fast I never imagined I would see an asteroid and recognize it. I can't believe how encouraging some people are. I can't say how much I appreciate it.
