Basic Questions asked by an Undergraduate Research Assistant
Hello All. As you might have guessed from the title of this survey, I am an undergraduate research assistant in the field of Soil Science, a very amateur Astronomist-and I am working on a project that outlines how the internet has changed Astronomical and related fields in the past decade. I know that the field is different than others, in that information is somewhat shared between observatories all over the world (or that is what I've heard-or read) I would LOVE it you could please take this survey and respond in as much detail as you can muster. It's just basic questions about this online community and how it aids, hurts, progresses, or hinders the field of Astronomy and related. I know some of these questions are a little strange to ask in an astronomy forum, but my boss is interested in establishing more communities like this in our field.
1. How often do you visit the forums on AstronomyToday (any forum on the website)?
2. Have you ever organized a "star party" with other members, or attended a star party you found out about on this website? If so, could you please describe your experiences.
3. Do you meet up with any of your local friends in one of the forums on AstronomyToday- for example, your friend down the street that shares you interest?
4. How well would you say these forums answer your questions concerning astronomy, and are these answers typically correct?
5. How often do you, and have you, revealed your "real-life" identity to someone you met in the forums on AstronomyToday?
6. Do you feel that you are part of a community on AstronomyToday?
7. Do you feel that participating in these forums enhance or suppress your sense of identity?
8. How often do you visit this site to answer astrology or cosmology related questions? And how often do you visit this site for casual entertainment?
I know some of these questions are a little strange to ask in an astronomy forum, but my boss is interested in establishing more communities like this in our field. You can reply through this poll/forum Thank you so much to all who participate. I will try to post my findings (no names, just findings/conclusions of course) once my research on this topic is complete.
