Main Problem with the Accelerating Universe

I have been trying to follow the latest theory on the accelerating universe, and have run across one flaw I can't seem to get around.

The latest belief seems to be that Dark Energy (the repulsive effect of empty space on matter) seems to account for the galaxies speeding away from each other at an accelerating (rather than a constant) pace.

If this is the case, then how did so much matter ever gather in one spot to create the Big Bang in the first place? If dark energy causes empty space to accelerate matter away from each other, then the matter would have a hard time accumulating in the first place.

The strangest thing is I have been searching everywhere, and have yet to see this question posed or answered.

Seems like a major flaw to this theory, but maybe I am missing something so basic that it doesn't need to be pointed out to most people.

Yeah, you're missing the part of the story where before the big bang, the universe was a singularity. Nothing was gathered. Everything was contained in a single dot.

Early Inflationary Universe was Different

The early universe inflated geometrically within about 10^-35 seconds and then it slowed down and started to cool, as energy spread out. When it cooled the forces that bind matter together (strong, weak, electromagnetic) came into being. These forces helped the early stars and galaxies form, which then led to later generations of stars, which produced the elements that make up our bodies and planets today. Inflation may have been the result of a super hot high energy primeval atom that released its energy in the Big Bang. And no one knows what is causing the modern pick up in inflation, but gravity, and the other forces are keeping the galaxies together, while the galactic clusters seem to be "breaking up" slowly. Billions of years from now, we won't be able to see anything except our local galactic group, as the rest of the clusters will have rushed off beyond our visible horizon. Forces are a major factor in keeping things together.

It IS possible, though not probable, that space is slightly curved or closed, eliminating the need for dark energy.

Could my theory give another reason why it is speeding up.

I have posted a new message as a new member but I thought you may look at my theory as an alternative explanation to the speeding up.
