Are we ready for the Perseids?
My friends and I counted a good five within a two hour period two days ago near Columbus, TX.
......
It looks like the mysterious Aurigids may give us a good show the last days of August, first days of September.
The Augurids come to us courtesy of comet Kiess in the year 83 BC, give or take a year or so. The comet paid our solar system another visit in 1911, pushing comet dust into Earth's oribal path every 50 years or so
( 1935, 1986, 1994 ).
Look toward the constellation Auriga, about 2:20 CDT the morning of September 1, 2007 as the shower peaks. The best view is from the western United States, Hawaii and Alaska, Mexico, and the Canadian western provinces.
