What is the Bright Star (Planet? Etc?) in the Southern Sky?

What is the Bright Star (Planet? Etc?) in the Southern Sky?

I know very little about astronomy but for the past few months I have seen a very bright star (seems brighter than the North Star) in the southern sky. Can anyone tell me what it is? It has been driving me crazy trying to find out - Appreciate your help - Thanks

That is Jupiter- riding the scorpion.
That is the heart of the scorpion- Antares, below it.
