How was it calculated that the sun is a G2 star? Is there a direct relationship between mass and temperature? G2

I asked a friend your question:
The spectral type of a star is chosen based upon the chemical elements in the star's atmosphere, hydrogen, helium, etc.
By examining the star's spectral lines and their width's
(intensity of the chemical element), one can deduce the spectral type.
The mass of a star has very little to do with spectral type.
Spectral types range from 1-9, such as G1, G2, ...G9, then K1, K2, ...K9, M1, etc.
The numbers 1-9 finely tune the star's spectral type.
There is a relationship between a star's mass and luminosity, and
between luminosity and temperature, but no direct relationship between mass and temperature.
More later on this subject.
