New Sunspots

Check out some blazing sunspots on spaceweather.com.
Solar viewing is especially rewarding for those of us who are unable to accomplish any noctural observing due to exasperating weather conditions.
(Actually this morning was VERY clear here in Houston!)

Each of the dark cores are larger than Earth with an "unstable magnetic field" between them.

There is also a snapshot of the ISS transiting the area, with the sunspot in the background.

solar viewing

I recently got a solar filter for a present. Im not to sure how to use it properly on the telescope i have. And i dont want to loose my eye sight any time soon. With the telescope i got a solar screen. Should I be using that with the filter, or the filter with just the telescope?
Any advice would be much appreciated
Ben

Solar Filter

What type of Solar Filter do you have?
It should be sufficient, but hopefully it came with instructions.
I would do an online search if you do NOT have the instructions,
and follow that.

As the saying goes: "When in doubt, read the manual."
