Not good when you run out of funds. Hate that!
Weather here in Texas has been so terribly cold. It messed up my last week of vacation. Cold weather just makes me want to hybernate.
I see that the UK has its share of weather woes.
How are you doing over there, Marc?

I am a newborn in astronomy. I just got my first scope a Meade ETX 80. I live in the mountains of PA and would'nt you know it for the next week the skys are going to be cloudy . Lucky the scope came with the autostar suite so I have something to keep busy wonderring through the start charts. Am planning on joining the Astronomical Leuge, do you think that would be wise for me?

bad weather for astronomy

There were high winds over much of Europe for the last week. Thankfully there was no major damage in the area around me. Still, it wouldn't have been a good idea to go out stargazing in those conditions.
Hi ramious_99,
Welcome to the Astronomy Today forums!

Don't forget to keep an eye on the clear sky clock to find out when viewing conditions in Pennsylvania improve again.
I'm not a member of the Astronomical League (as I don't live in the United States) so I can't say whether or not membership is worthwhile but my general advice would be to join a local club or society first where you can benefit from hands-on tips, advice and experience.

Thanks for the welcome and the advise Marc. I found the Clear Sky Clock very helpful. Even if it did confirm my woes.
I hve been unable to find any astronomy groupes in my immediate are. How ever, I am planning on attending my first star party on the 24th of Febuary being hosted by the AAAP(Amateur Astronomy Ass. of Pittsberg)
I am also looking forward to the major Black Forrest Star Party later this year.
My new astronomical calander should arive any day now. I am excited to see what major events mmight be taking place this year.
Again thanks for the welcome and look forward to future conversations

We still have lots of rain and it is still pretty cold in my opinion.
.....
I'm with Marc. I believe you would get more benefit out of joining a local Astronomy Club.
There is also a lot of beneficial information on the internet in the field of astronomy.
BTW:Check out these excellent pix of Comet McNaught were sent through the H.A.S. listserver.

Wishing you well.

Hi Lydia, nice meeting you. The weather in PA continues to disapoint. It's going to be snowing the next couple of days. even is the skies did clear, with all the light pollution mixed with a snow covered ground, would make observing a nightmare.I am hoping Febuary will bring a change. Luckly I have the new friends I am making to keep me busy and entertained. Plus google video has some wonderful astronomy programs.
I'm really looking forward to getting my tax refund soon. I'm getting a new laptop to use with my telescope. yes, I am building a special case for it so as not to disturb night vision at the star parties or even when obseving in genereal. I like the sutostar suite that came with my telescope. It has a night vision setting that turns the screen red and really lowers the light output.
Well even with the weather woes, My adventure moves forward. if I have one wish it is for mankind to stop it's distruction and evolve to the Univeral Contousness. I would really love to see us meet out galactic nieghbors in my life time.
best wishs and a blessed tomarrow.

Hi Ramious_99
Many clubs belong to the Astronomical League. For a list of those that do, go to astroleague dot org, look under "About us" and click on "Societies." A national listing will appear.
If you join one of these clubs they will tell you how to become a League member. Many clubs automatically enter your name onto League roster roles.
Why join a club that belongs to the Astronomical League? A few reasons to consider...
a. Receiving the quarterly magazine the Reflector,
b. Becoming eligible to participate in any of the League's many nationally recognized observing programs/clubs,
c. Being able to use the League Book Service for ordering astronomy related books, charts and posters,
d. Becoming eligible for national awards,
e. Being part of a national organization that promotes amateur astronomy.
Whether you join the League or not, joing an amateur astronomy club is a great way to learn about the hobby and meet others who are knowledgeable about the subject.

FINALLY !
Last night, I was finally able to witness a somewhat clear couple of hours in Columbus, TX.
I tell you, it has been such a long time since we've had clear skies that it actually took me a while to identify something !
I was so depressed and put out by the VT shootings and what happened at JSC that I needed some starshine and was quite happy when I got my wish.
