Did the Viking Space Probs of 1976-77 Kill Marcian Microbs?

The article mentions the Viking mission was looking for
"...Earth-like life, in which salt water is the internal liquid of living cells... "
whereas the dry and cold Marcian conditions may have provided
"...the key internal fluid consisting of a mix of water and hydrogen peroxide...".
