making news today 2/18/05 The possibilities of this star's collapse during our life times are past astronomical if it is indeed rare, but what if like events aren't rare at all. After all, it happened within our little bitty lifetimes so how rare can it be? This type of event seems very likely as a source for the ionizing radiation long recognized in our Earth's past and a source of mutation and extinction.
I do think that the scientists on the trail of a nuclear core in the Earth are heading in the right direction. RMPasisniak (not spelled correctly, sorry Michael) writes in the Vital Vastness that this is a fact and offers some heafty collaboration. Website: www.thelivingcosmos.com
More and more you see electromagnetism proposals as the missing leg of the Grand Unifying Theory. Hope I see this accepted and verified before I get to 100. And the theories of an expanding Earth are making more sense if the core is nuclear.
