Back from Alaska

I got back to Nashville yesterday after 6 days in Alaska. It went great except for one thing---I did not see the northern lights. That was because there was a full moon the night before I left, otherwise I would have continued on to Fairbanks. Some people said they saw the lights, but I never did. I was out in the night and toward morning. Got to beware of grizzly bears! Denali Park and Mt. McKinley were the best. We drove 63 miles into the park and were there over 9 hours. I sat in the front of the bus in the best seat. I took pictures although I am not sure how they will turn out. We saw wildlife: grizzlies, moose, wolves, caribou and Dall sheep. I ate caribou meat. I rode the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Denali. It was a 7 hour train ride and quite scenic. We crossed many rivers created by glacier water. Alaska is a big place. I learned there are no snakes. It was about 50 degrees in the day and 30 degrees at night. I came back to Anchorage for my last day and did the town. I went to the History and Art Museum. There are exhibits about native culture, local artists and Alaskan birds. Alaskans are friendly.

Welcome back Jim.
I also visited Alaska several years ago and had the same luck you did.
Saw everything EXCEPT the Auroras. DARN !
BUT have seen them in Montana AND Texas...
.. strange but true...
The best part was when my young son said he wasn't going to bed until the sun went down, yet he was quite tired. When he asked what time it was as we were wandering the winderness and I replied 4 a.m. he had a shocked look on his face.
He then decided it was time for some shut eye. Smile

Wishing you well.

LL

Where is everyone?

Good morning to all:

You can look forward to more articles being uploaded to the website in the next few weeks, including the STAR GUIDE for 2007.
( As of 1515 Central Time today, 28 Dec 2006, I am on vacation FOR A MONTH! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy!)

I think I may be the only person on earth who actually choreographs her vacation. Smile ... I live with perpetual lists and daily agendas to make sure I get all my activities in. My mom says I do more in one day than some people do in a week. LOL.

What I REALLY want to ask is: We have over 300 registered members. So WHERE IS EVERYONE?
How about some astronomy observer's interaction in our Forum?
Surely you have some fave observing targets you would like to share with everyone.

Wishing you well.

LL
