Venus & . . . Sattelite . . . ? ? ? Any Id

Good Morning;

I am New to this Site, and very amature to astronomy. I had taken a survey course in college that generated my interest in the heavens. Now I have question. I don't own a telescope, and I rely on the naked eye, or even a website to show me what is out there like APOD. The pictures make COOL wallpaper.

Anyway, my question, A week ago this past Sunday I was on my way to the airport early in the morning and of course Venus was in the East as usual, but I noticed and pointed out to my wife and son what appeared to be a sattelite . . . or a moon (even though Venus has no moon) What could it have been? Is there currently a probe or something on mission to Venus that would appear to look like a moon? Did anyone else see it? It was the first and only time I have noticed it. The date I saw it was 10/03 at about 05:30. What could it have been? It seemed way too close to the planet to be another star. Could Murcury have been in such close proximity to show up like that? Rolling Eyes Well, let me know. Thank You . . .

CJ

Not really sure if I understand the the context of your first comment, so I'll let it go. I was hoping to get an answer to my question. Anyway, I don't want to leave anyone out. Perhaps someone actually got a picture of it?

What it was that appeared to be a Sattelite of Venus was actually the star Regulas in the constellation Leo. On that date 10/03 at around 05:15, the star was so close to the planet that it created a really cool optical illusion creating the effect that Venus had a moon! A couple of weeks went by before I spoke to a co-worker who is really into astronomy. Like I said,
I'm really just a beginner. Anyway, he used the database on his plam pilot to look for the answer to my question. He was away on vacation for 2 weeks which was why it took so long to get an answer.

I was looking this morning at Venus, and Regulas is still low in the horizon, lower than Venus, but just as bright, and to the naked eye looks to be about 8 to 10 feet below Venus. Did Anyone Get a Picture ? ? ?
Perhaps the sametime next year it will happen again. It would be worth looking for as I now find it amusingly unusual. Look for it next year 10/03/05 at around 05:00, maybe it will be there? Cool
