Black Holes - Hypothetical Question

Hello eveyone,

I wonder if anybody has any info/input regarding black holes? Specifically, what would happen in the event of two black holes of identical mass colliding. (Assuming that black holes do acually form as free floating bodies in space, this is a new area of interest to me and I'm still trying to grasp the fundementals.)
In particular - would they coalesce, would one consume the other, or would both be annihilated?
The reason for my question is none other than simple curiosity, but any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Ben
