New to the area

Starting out. I'm afraid that I don't have the background knowledge of astronomy as many of you but, I do have the desire to learn more. I would like to know what might be a suggested way to start out in stargazing as it's been a lifelong desire of mine to do so.

Greetings StarNovice !
The best place to start is by web surfing ! There are a myriad of websites by amateur (and professional) astronomers, and they are all very helpful and educational.
Grab a nice pair of binoculars. Lay out on the back porch at night , maybe with a friend, a star chart and a flashlight (RED light so as not to impede your night vision), and find the constellations and the brightest stars in each, visible from your area.
Join an astronomy club or two and frequent star parties. Everyone is always so nice and happy to give you a few more pointers, and you can get a quick view into our universe through some of the larger scopes.

HAVE FUN !

Kindest Regards,

Lydia Lousteaux
