Harvest Moon

Posted by BC on September 14th, 2008

Moonrise - Brenda CulbertsonThe Full Moon for September is called the Harvest Moon. The name is appropriate for Northern Hemisphere farmers because they are harvesting crops this time of year. The Full Moon provides light so that farmers can see later into the evening so that they can continue working even after the Sun sets.

The Full Moon in October is also frequently referred to as the Harvest Moon. I suppose that if the harvest is not complete in September, it continues into October, and the name is shared between months.

There is nothing magical about the Moon this month. I just looks cool!

I think this is very interesting! I never knew that before! I just thought it was called the Harvest Moon, because it would show up in October..on Halloween!!
